Sean Mac Carthy was
born in Cork in 1957. He studied in a number of arts institutes including
Crawford College of Art and Design, Camberwell School of Art and Design,
London, City and Guilds of London, Kensington and Stafford College. Sean
has also studied with Danish artist Gerik Seheldrap, Kilcrohane and with Master
Figure Sculptor Bruno Luechessi, Arizona.
Exhibitions include
the RDS Horseshow, Sculpture Society of Ireland Exhibition, St. Finbarre’s
Cathedral, Frank Lewis Garden Exhibition and the ‘C2’ Exhibition at the
Crawford Gallery Cork.
Sean has worked on
a number of commissions both public and private. Past work include an Aer
Rianta commission of a bronze sculpture of Christy Ring for Cork Airport, a
Holy Family Church Commission of ‘Emmanuel’ for their premises on Military
Hill, Cork, a bronze sculpture of Bill Clinton, Ballybunion, ‘Eden’,
commissioned by Port of Cork for the Millennium Garden, Tivoli, ‘Inclusive
Spirit’, Douglas Community School, Cork, ’Focus’ Bronze, Carrigaline Community
School, Cork and ‘The Blacksmith’, Bronze Coolagown, Fermoy commissioned
by Castlelyons Development Committee.
Currently Sean is
working on a commission for a private garden in Mallow, 4 bronze plaques of
children playing hide and seek.
