des/IRE; designing houses for contemporary Ireland – 2008

des/IRE; designing houses for contemporary Ireland, was a conference which took place in May of 2007 and was devised by the National Sculpture Factory. Its aim was to take an interdisciplinary look at the hidden factors driving contemporary housing design and gather a wide range of views on how we can create better places to live. The book is intended to not only reflect the complex and diverse contributions from the conference, but to broaden the debate even further by offering newly commissioned essays and perspectives on housing.

Maria Eichhorn/ Publishing the fact that something will remain unpublished - 2005

This book is by Berlin-based artist Maria Eichhorn, and was commissioned by the National Sculpture Factory, Ireland, as part of Cork Caucus (www.corkcaucus.org), a project that took place in Cork City, Ireland, over twelve months as part of European Capital of Culture in 2005.

This beautifully designed book was published in May 2006 and contains only one mysterious sentence, “Publishing the fact that something will remain unpublished" in Irish, English, and German, which runs through the book at a rate of one letter per page. The meaning of the sentence only becomes apparent when leafing through the book, letter-by-letter, and word-by-word. The book was designed by the artist working with the graphic designer Judith Schalansky and was published by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König Köln, without the name of the artist or of the publishing house. It is 18 × 11.7 cm, 160 pages, unpaginated, hardcover with jacket, no place, no year.

Maria Eichhorn lives and works in Berlin. Much of her work involves collaborating with others, often groups of people. Her work often addresses social and political issues and utilises the gathering of information and the creation of a space for dialogue and information sharing.

Croon - 2005

This publication was produced by Meridian Theatre Company in collaboration with the National Sculpture Factory, to document an interdisciplinary collaboration between visual artist Daphne Wright, and playwright and theatre director Johnny Hanrahan.

Echo - 2002

The National Sculpture Factory has been involved with the Pépinière Européennes pour Jeunes Artistes Programme for over a decade.  The range of work and projects which they realised during their residency culminated with an exhibition at the Sirius Arts Centre entitled Echo.

FIS - 1999

Fís is the title for a project which involved the collaborative skills of architects and sculptors.  The concept of the collaboration was initiated by the National Sculpture Factory as part of its development programme.  In partnership with the Architectural Association of Ireland, the object of the project was to initiate and nurture contacts between architects and sculptors.  The process sought to provoke the instincts, thought processes, education that underlies the training and making of both architects and sculptors and sought to bring those to bear in collaborative problem solving.
